        In the beginning...

After University, marriage, and the birth of my first daughter as soon as my husband and I knew we would soon be moving into our first house I bought my first Shorthair puppy.

Sandy
Sandy

He wasn't much of a show dog, but he sure was a character!

Tough, athletic and a handful even for a strong man, yet my toddler daughter learned to walk holding onto his collar and he never knocked her down.

He adored kids and puppies - and would put up with anything from either, he always deferred to bitches, but he was Hell on wheels with strange dogs.

He was a great guy...

She was Sandy's daughter and my first real "show dog" - and how she loved the shows!

A gorgeous headed bitch (Bill Kendricks wrote about her "perfect head" in Dog World), short backed and perfectly balanced, with dark, dark eyes and liver pigment - she had a body to die for.

Patient with puppies, gentle with the children and always ready to pack up and go to a dog show - we had a lot of fun together and she taught me how to win...

Another of Sandy's daughters, this lady wasn't a show dog, though she did finish with some good wins.

But she was an obedience dog supreme!  The fun we had learning all about obedience trials and the thrill of our first "Highest Score in Trial" will never be forgotten.

She lived to please her "people" - babysitter, guardian, go anywhere companion - she was a truly great lady...
